Hello everyone,
I wanted to link to two articles I’ve had published in recent days, both on the subject of U.S. maritime security. First, though, I want to praise the Israeli Navy for their role in their nation’s defense during the latest horrific attacks by Hamas.
While the land and air arms of the Israel Defense Forces get the most international press attention during Israel’s battles with those who would destroy it - they certainly get lots of attention from those who wrongly draw a moral equivalency between Israel and Hamas - the naval arm deserves attention, too. In recent days, its service members have taken out Hamas terrorists moving toward Israeli territory by boat, and have captured a senior leader of Hamas’ naval force. No doubt they are performing countless other heroic tasks that will not garner media coverage.
As an American, I am very happy that my country has played a major role in arming Israel for decades. This includes building ships for the Israeli Navy, like the Sa’ar 5-class corvette and a new class of landing craft. May this support continue.

On Friday, I had the honor of being published in The Liberal Patriot, for my money one of the best political outlets on Substack. I show the importance of America’s maritime industries - shipping, shipbuilding, the workers vital to both - to its national security.
Today, the Center for International Maritime Security published my contribution to its Notes to the New CNO. I urge the incoming Chief of Naval Operations to ask for material sacrifice from the American public - like taking oil out of the civilian economy even though it will raise gasoline prices - for the sake of the nation’s defense:

I recommend TLP and CIMSEC to anyone eager for pragmatic center-left political analysis, and/or thoughtful commentary on America’s Sea Services.
My very best to you all.
