My article in Wisdom of Crowds - "The Case for Honesty in Foreign Policy"
Better to avoid hypocrisy than to dash people's hopes.
Hi everyone,
I had the honor recently of being published in Wisdom of Crowds, one of my favorite places on Substack. I argue that, while democracy promotion should be a foreign policy priority for the United States, American leaders should not try to mislead the world about how much they really value it. Given America’s history of backing dictators over aspiring democrats, the U.S. is better off saying less about democracy, and doing more to actually strengthen it, like cutting off aid to militaries that overthrow their elected governments:
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend subscribing to Wisdom of Crowds. Their articles and podcasts do a fantastic job tackling first principles and conflicting values in politics, religion, society, and more. It’s a great antidote to the noise, short-sightedness, and mindless partisanship you find in so much of the media, social and otherwise.
